# CRTM Compile error

I am trying to compile CRTM using the steps found in [GitHub - JCSDA/crtm](https://github.com/JCSDA/crtm). I get the following message when I try to do the configure --prefix=$PW in build step 1.

configure: CRTM v2.4.0-alpha  
checking whether the Fortran compiler works… no

In case this hasn’t been resolved yet:

This message often occurs if **Configuration Step 1** wasn’t successfully executed:

```
. configuration/gfortran-debug.setup
```

Thank you. Benjamin determined that we didn’t have a new enough Fortran version. I am trying to get a newer version installed.
